As an Indiana Jones adventurer, Harrison Ford always wore a hat. One copy has now been auctioned for a fabulous price.
No price was too high for a well-heeled person for Indy’s hat: Harrison Ford’s (78) fedora from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984) was auctioned on Tuesday during an auction at Prop Store Auctions. And that for a whole 300,000 US dollars (around 250,000 euros)! Accordingly, the anonymous bidder is said to have offered far more than the expert estimate. This ranged from $ 150,000 to $ 200,000.
The accessory is a work of the Herbert Johnson Hat Company. The company had also made the hat for the first part of the “Indiana Jones” series, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981). Nevertheless, the Fedora differs from its predecessor. According to the auction house, it is more pointed than the version from the first part of the popular action series. In any case, the bidder can look forward to a collector’s item in top condition. “The Fedora is in excellent shape, showing slight signs of wear and aging,” is the description of the item.
$ 300,000 for a hat – a bargain?
In comparison, the winner of the auction got away with a real bargain price. Because in 2015 the hat from “Raiders of the Lost Treasure” was already auctioned – for an unbelievable 500,000 US dollars (approx. 420,000 euros)! Even then, the auction took place via Prop Store Auctions.
