Mark Forster: He’s “not the type for the right timing”

Mark Forster (38) rarely talks about his private life, but his recent album “Musketeers” is about the story of a relationship. In an interview in the new issue of “Stern”, the singer explains that he doesn’t really believe in wrong and right timing.

“I tend to believe that in retrospect one likes to interpret a certain form of fatefulness into something that actually just happened,” explains Forster. “Ok wow”, the first song on the album, is about “a morning after a night” when it is clear that “life will now be divided into a before and an after”. When he thinks back to such moments in his own life when everything changes, these “seldom happened at exactly the right moment”. For him it is often too late.

He checks fundamental questions in life “actually always with a huge delay”. Sometimes only “when the matter is already over”. For example, when his first record was released, he was already 28 years old: “Most of them have already lost their careers. I’m just not the type for the right timing.”

“Difference between being content and having peace”

Forster there is also “a difference between being satisfied and being at peace”. He sees himself as “more of a positive guy”, which is why he is less often dissatisfied than satisfied. “But a real, real, deep peace – I rarely had that,” says the singer. A “farewell to the search, to the hunt” is also somewhat melancholy for him. He said goodbye to past adventures, “because there’s something better than searching, namely peace. It gives you a much greater feeling of freedom than anything chased around the world.”

“Musketeers” is “exactly the album I wanted to make”. He is sure that for him personally “it will remain one of the most special. That I will still be proud of it in 20 years.” He hopes that his fans will also enjoy the record and that they can “feel something” with the songs.
