The Cambridge family is shrinking. In the next few weeks, Prince William and his family will move out of the lavish Kensington Palace and join the Queen in Windsor. But there is a problem – no nanny fits into the new house.
From Kensington Palace in London to the village in Windsor to the cottage, that’s what Duchess Kate, Prince William and their three children are now saying. But for the first time in her life, the nanny won’t be staying with the Cambridges. This is a first for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. So they are used to Maria Borrallo, their Spanish Norland nanny, being available 24 hours a day. So the move to Adelaide Cottage will be a significant change.
According to the British magazine “The Telegraph”, not only the nanny has to move out, but also a housekeeper and a cook should look for a new place to live. But they will probably also be accommodated on the large grounds of Windsor Castle. So the family doesn’t have to do without Borrallo’s services and help entirely.
Prince William and family: Next door to the nanny for eight years
The Duke and Duchess hired Ms Borrallo in 2014 when Prince George was eight months old. She has been a fixture with the family ever since and is often pictured at official events in traditional brown Norland uniform. In Great Britain, the uniform stands for a four-year apprenticeship with a focus on early childhood education. In addition, the bearers have to earn a respected Norland diploma and complete a 12-month probationary position.
Tuition fees for 2022/23 are £14,990 and the average UK salary for Norland nannies is then also between £42,000-70,000 per year. Mrs Borrallo sometimes travels on holiday with the royal family and has her own home at the family’s current palace and at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. But now she will have to move to another building.
Adelaide Cottage, where Prince William’s family will move into, is a lovely Grade II listed property built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, wife of William IV. It will only contain four bedrooms, but will offer a seclusion that the family cannot currently enjoy in London. You will live in the heart of Windsor Park with plenty of opportunities for horse riding, walking the family dog and playing. Far away from prying eyes.
