Pop icon: Queen of Pop: Madonna turns 64

Almost a week ago, a pop music icon released a remix. The performer of the work was Beyoncé. But she wasn’t the only one to be heard on the remix. None other than Madonna personally joined them.

“Don’t mess with the Queens,” she added in an Instagram post while sharing a little snippet of “Break My Soul.” The star singer turns 64 today.

Even the “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson, spent a lot of time with the songwriter. Madonna is not just anyone. She is the “Queen of Pop”. She may even be the biggest star in entertainment heaven. The Queen and the King in one car?

In fact, according to one of Madonna’s stories, it came to a funny moment in the past: “The warmest memory of Michael Jackson is when I got him drunk and forced him to throw his sunglasses out of the car. We laughed so hard at the time.”

After her school education, which the daughter of a car mechanic completed with great achievements – after all, Madonna had an IQ of 141 at the time – she dared the New York adventure. With only 30 US dollars in her pocket, she wanted to make ends meet in the metropolis at the end of the 1970s. She kept her head above water with odd jobs and nude photos, which were later published in millions of copies by the erotic magazine “Playboy”. At the same time, she was able to gain a foothold in the music industry with various performances in nightclubs and soon received her first record deals.

In 1983 she released her debut album “Madonna”. Her international breakthrough came with the single “Holiday”. Her first album sold millions of copies. For the second album, she decided to change producers. Nile Rodgers, who also produced the music of Michael Jackson and David Bowie, worked with her from then on. The music in “Like A Virgin” became rockier but remained recognizable. In the 1980s, Madonna’s music was almost continuously at the top of the charts. To date, the singer has released 14 albums. These and a large part of their singles, such as “Like A Prayer”, “Material Girl” or “4 Minutes”, stormed the charts again and again.

Flops, family and sex – the rise to icon

Not everything went perfectly with Madonna either. Her acting career flopped. Above all, their roles were criticized. In the film business she could not convince in the long term. As is well known, things went better elsewhere.

From the relationship with her fitness trainer Carlos Leon came a daughter in 1996, in 2000 her son was born with Guy Richie. The two were married until 2008. She was previously married to American actor Sean Penn from 1985 to 1989. She now also has four adopted children from Malawi.

Madonna became iconic in the 1980s and still is to this day. No other woman spoke so openly about her sex life. She was open about affairs and erotic images and published her illustrated book “SEX” in 1992, which deals with sexual taboos. As one of the first women, she personally controlled pretty much every step in her career and today, along with Michael Jackson and Prince, is considered the most important representative of pop music.
