Thermal leggings in trend: must-have for autumn & winter

Hardly any other item of clothing is as controversial as leggings. Some love them, others hate them. But the fact is: If you are a fan of the skin-tight trousers, you usually wear them all year round. However, the thin fabric offers little protection on cold days – unless you are wearing warm thermal leggings.

In Germany alone, sales for tights and leggings this year are 447 million euros – this is shown in a recent one, which shows how popular the trousers are. They are versatile and can be worn during sports as well as in everyday life. Either as a replacement for pants or under clothing, as many skiers and snowboarders do, for example. Here, the leggings primarily serve as a warming support, while women in particular wear the skin-tight trousers for styling reasons. The fashion industry has also recognized this, so that there are now a large number of different models made of materials such as viscose, cotton or (artificial) leather on the market. On cold days, however, thermal leggings conquer the shelves.

What are the characteristics of thermal leggings?

In contrast to normal leggings, winter leggings have a denser fabric and a soft inner fleece that has heat-insulating properties. The material is stretchy, skin-friendly and breathable, so that the usual comfort of the skin-tight trousers should be retained. Thanks to the flexible waistband, you can protect the waist and stomach from the cold without cutting into the skin. Depending on the manufacturer, you can choose between different sizes, colors and patterns, so that there are no limits to the styling options. It is only important that the leggings fit well so that they can optimally adapt to every movement. This is especially important for snow sports and jogging.

How to put thermal leggings in the limelight

As mentioned at the beginning, there are two ways of wearing thermal leggings: Either under the pants as additional thermal protection in winter – for example during winter sports or with small children – or as a replacement for pants. The latter variant can be seen in many places in women who have one Instead of thin tights, like to combine them with long sweaters and tunics, skirts or (knitted) dresses. For example, particularly well-lined boots (such as Uggs) or winter boots go well with this. Depending on how colorful your outfit can be, you can choose plain or bright colors for the thermal leggings. Whether monochrome or multicolored, of course, always depends on personal taste and the individual selection that each manufacturer has to offer.

Washing thermal leggings properly: this is how it works

To prevent your thermal leggings from shrinking straight away after the first wash, you should adhere to the following rules:

  1. Do not wash the leggings hotter than 30 to 40 degrees (it is best to follow the recommendation on the sewn label).
  2. Depending on what material the leggings are made of, a mild or heavy-duty detergent is recommended.
  3. Use one with every wash to protect the sensitive material during spinning.
