Long-term unemployed: this year 100 million euros for “springboard”

This year, around 100 million euros will be available through reallocations in the AMS standard budget for the “springboard” initiative, as Minister of Labor Martin Kocher (ÖVP) announced on Thursday. From 2022, the corresponding budget will be expanded by an additional 300 million euros.

50,000 of the 150,000 or so long-term unemployed are expected to find a job again by the end of 2022 with the “springboard” initiative. “This requires around 75,000 to 100,000 new jobs. With the Springboard program, we are well prepared to achieve this ambitious goal,” said Kocher. In order to achieve this, the AMS relies on training, integration grants and non-profit leasing of labor.

Long-term unemployed people interested in the “springboard” program can contact their AMS advisor. You can also contact us online via the eAMS account. Interested companies can also contact the AMS.

From July 1, there will also be two different Corona short-time working models. On the one hand an unchanged variant for particularly affected companies and on the other hand a transitional model with a subsidy discount of 15 percent.

Short-time work only “partially”

“It can be assumed that short-time working will only be partially used over the summer,” said Labor Minister Kocher. If the epidemiological situation allows, “by next year we can even expect short-time work registrations to approach the pre-crisis level”.

According to current estimates, Kocher expects 100,000 to 120,000 short-time workers for the Corona short-time work phase 5 from July, including 20,000 to 30,000 people in companies massively affected by the corona crisis. For phase 4 of short-time work, the number of people billed and funded has been around 250,000 since April, according to the Ministry of Labor.
