The actor began his career in the theater. In 1955 he made his feature film debut in “Reifende Jugend”. This was followed by roles in films such as “Das Messer” (1971), “Griseldis” (1974) and “Die Vorstadtkrokodile” (1977). In the latter he mimed the father of Martin Semmelrogge’s (66) role Egon Steffenhagen. Barner was also seen in several “Tatort” editions and starred in the series “The defiant head”, “Die Drombuschs”, “Out of the blue” and “A case for two”.
He also worked as a radio play speaker. His productions included the role of master detective Sherlock Holmes in “Sherlock Holmes and the Whitechapel Murders” (SWR). In recent years, the actor had withdrawn from the public eye.
