Movies like “Moneyball” or “The Wolf of Wall Street” made Jonah Hill famous. No one suspected that public appearances would be torture for the 38-year-old. Hill suffers from panic attacks – and therefore wants to make himself rare in the future.
Whether film festivals, talk shows or panel discussions – in order to promote his latest films, actor Jonah Hill has attended numerous public events over the past two decades and, as is usual in Hollywood, has gone on extensive promotional tours. But that should be the end of it now. In a letter published by Rolling Stone magazine, among others, Hill explains that he will not be doing any promotion for his upcoming documentary Stutz. And I don’t intend to do it again for another film in the future.
As a reason, Hill cites his panic attacks, which he has suffered for 20 years and which would be massively aggravated by appearances in the limelight. His withdrawal from the public is for his own protection. “If I promoted the film, I would get sicker. That would not be honest with myself or the film,” writes the 38-year-old in his letter.
Jonah Hill can be seen in the documentary together with his therapist and wants to bring the topic of mental health closer to a wide audience. “I hope it becomes more normal for people to talk about these things and do something about them,” Hill said.

“Stutz” is scheduled to premiere at a “renowned film festival” in the fall, and Hill also directed the documentary. He hopes that the work will speak for itself and reach as many people as possible – even without a worldwide advertising tour.
