Malaika Mihambo: After a circulatory collapse, things are getting better

All clear for Malaika Mihambo: After her circulatory collapse after winning the silver medal, she is now “better again”.

The long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo (28) is “better again” after her circulatory collapse on Thursday evening. This was announced by the German Athletics Association on Friday night, according to consistent media reports. Mihambo won the silver medal at the European Championships in Munich on Thursday and was able to give a TV interview after the competition.

While still in the stadium, she suffered from circulatory problems and shortness of breath. The visibly dazed Mihambo was driven out of the stadium in a golf cart. She was no longer available for further interviews in the mixed zone. After about an hour she felt better. At 12:30 a.m. the native of Heidelberg was already at the doping control. According to the report, her trainer Uli Knapp was with her the whole time.

Malaika Mihambo had to pause due to a corona infection

This Friday afternoon, subject to a medical check, Mihambo wants to comment on the exciting competition in Munich’s Olympic Stadium at a DLV press conference. After her triumph at the World Championships in July, Mihambo contracted the corona virus and was unable to train for almost two weeks. The athlete only confirmed her participation in the European Championships in Munich four days before the qualification.

In a gripping and high-class final, Mihambo was only just beaten by Serbian and new European champion Ivana Vuleta (32). She was only three centimeters short of a gold medal: Vuleta jumped a distance of 7.06 meters in her best round, Mihambo reached 7.03 meters.
