Former model Linda Evangelista adorns the current cover of the British fashion magazine “Vogue”. The consequences of her unsuccessful cosmetic surgery were concealed for the shoot.
She was one of the supermodels of the ’90s, but Linda Evangelista went quiet for several years after a botched beauty treatment. Now the 57-year-old is gracing the cover of a fashion magazine again for the first time. US photographer Steven Meisel photographed her for British “Vogue”. On the cover, Evangelista is seen in an all red outfit. She also posed for the magazine in creations by Chanel, Fendi, Alexandre Vauthier and Richard Quinn. What is striking is that all the clothes completely cover Evangelista’s body. In addition, she always wears a scarf tied tightly around her head and a hat in the photos.
The styling is no accident. Evangelista told Vogue that her face was slightly pulled back by the makeup artist for the shoot with tape and rubber bands to make it appear more toned. “That’s not what my jaw and neck look like in real life, but I can’t go around with tape and rubber bands everywhere,” she said.
In September last year, Linda Evangelista made it public that she was permanently disfigured after a so-called CoolSculpting treatment. The procedure is actually intended to reduce the fatty tissue with the help of cold – but Evangelista had side effects that had exactly the opposite effect. Hardening and swelling developed in several parts of her body, which could not be removed even through further interventions. In desperation, Evangelista even stopped eating.
“I was so embarrassed. I had just spent so much money and the only way I could think of was not to eat any calories, so I just drank water. Sometimes I also ate a stick of celery or an apple . I almost went insane,” she told Vogue.
Linda Evangelista misses her work as a model very much
She fell into a deep depression, rarely left the house and could no longer work. “If I had known that the side effects can include losing your livelihood and you end up so depressed you hate yourself, I would not have taken that risk.” She thought the procedure was harmless and wanted to try it because she was “a bit vain”. “It backfired,” said the Canadian.
Linda Evangelista is suing the manufacturer of the device used for the CoolSculpting treatment for $50 million in damages. Both parties reached an agreement a few weeks ago. Nothing is publicly known about the amount of money paid. For Linda Evangelista, however, it’s an important step to look forward to. She can also currently be seen in a campaign by the luxury label Fendi, now on the cover of “Vogue”. However, she does not want to talk about a comeback.
“I miss my job so much, but honestly, what can I do? It’s not going to be easy. I’m definitely not showing myself in a bathing suit. It’s going to be difficult to find jobs that show skin – without retouching, laminating, masking or otherwise tricking.”
