A family tour of wineries

The building – with an architectural design in which straight lines predominate, built with simple materials such as exposed brick and concrete – is made up of three floors: the reception and two apartments ideal for families on the ground floor; the spaces where social activities are carried out such as the restaurant, living rooms and reading area on the first floor; and finally, on the second floor, five suites.

One option is to use the hotel’s bikes to get around and visit neighboring wineries on a family outing. In addition to the guided tour activities in the setting of an impressive view of the lake and the mountains, the hotel restaurant offers different menu options with tastings at night, and there is also a children’s menu for the little ones.

Among the traditional visits to wineries, Cruzat is characterized by being one of the few with a program designed for children, with an entertaining proposal where the children design and paint the label of the bottle, which their parents take as a souvenir. The Family Plan includes a visit and tasting of three sparkling wines (welcome glass, two Premier line glasses and a Cuvée glass) and the bottle that adults take with them.

In the sparkling wine line, Bodega Kaiken also added a new option in May, “Getting to know Kaiken’s sparkling wines”, which includes a welcome at the Chardonnay vineyard and a tour of the winery, the Ángel cellar and the sparkling wine room.

Likewise, at Bodegas Zuccardi, the Pan & Oliva space allows children to become kitchen helpers, generally oriented towards healthy dishes. The cost of the experience includes the gift apron.

Meanwhile, Susana Balbo during the school break presents entertainment activities for children, with the participation of artists and entertainers. That winery, in addition, was one of those that opened accommodation in 2022, with the Susana Balbo Unique Stays, which is located in Luján de Cuyo, a little closer to the provincial capital, but they do not accept boys, since the rooms are for two with a spa concept.

Those who turn to the south of the province to get to know San Rafael, a town somewhat further away from the traditional wine-producing areas, have the possibility of dedicating a day to tastings at the Jorge Rubio winery. In addition to being suitable for children, many families often visit it for guided visits to schools in the area (General Alvear) where they tour the factory and carry out activities related to the manufacture of pieces with leather, a material with which the labels of the products are also made. CLOSENESS

Already from the city of Mendoza, one option is to dedicate the day to family activities and leave the visits to wineries for the night. In that case, there are two proposals that are located about 15 minutes by car from the center of the provincial capital (you can go by taxi or Uber and avoid leaving by car) and that have high-level gastronomy: the Los Toneles, with its Abrasado restaurant, and Espacio Trapiche, both places that maintain original buildings and also have a children’s menu.

Abrasado’s proposal, hand in hand with Familia Millán, is based on the concept “from the field to the plate” and is applied to most of its products, from breads, oils and vinegars, wines and distillates and its meats. The ideal is to arrive when evening falls to tour the winery that is turning 100 years old, with tastings included.

In the restaurant, meat is the flagship product, as each cut undergoes a different maturation process to achieve its full expression. As a bonus, the best products from Familia Millán are integrated into the dishes: Aceto Millán, Laur extra virgin olive oil, number one in the world, and local spices. The wines from Bodega Los Toneles -Abrasado, Mosquita Muerta Wines and Fuego Blanco Wines- complete a premium gourmet proposal. One of the winery buildings was readapted and “La Casona” Art Gallery works there, where exhibitions are held permanently.

Another option is Espacio Trapiche, in Maipú, also minutes from the provincial capital, where the wines of Sergio Casé, the winery’s first oenologist, and the dishes of renowned Chef Lucas Bustos are combined. The winery maintains among the vineyards some buildings from 1883 and the old train tracks that carried the production.

IDEAL SCENARIO

An ideal setting to arrive in the late afternoon and then have dinner at Espacio Trapiche, where there is also a children’s menu and different options for adults, always in steps oriented to pairing, and with products from Trapiche’s own gardens. The 11-step menu stands out, where the entire ecosystem of the winery is represented. You can also access the Master Class with the sommelier, in an additional experience.

Likewise, Trapiche recently inaugurated a new space, Estación 83, to go during the day. It is about the restoration of a train car that originally took and brought the grapes from the harvest to the winery and they turned it into a thrown wine bar.
