Princess Diana would have turned 60 today. Secret and exclusive tape recordings show how desperately she struggled for the love of Prince Charles. How did these recordings come about?
Today would be Diana’s 60th birthday. On the occasion of their special day, a statue of their sons Prince William and Harry is unveiled. In this episode of “Today important”, aristocratic expert Michael Begasse hopes that the brothers will perhaps be reconciled there. It is also about exclusive sound recordings from Lady Di.
Secret tapes
Diana had secretly poured out her heart to journalist Andrew Morton in the early 1990s. She had recorded tapes in which she told very impressively how much she suffers. Things that the royal family would rather never have published. “The exciting and fascinating thing about these tapes is that we really hear Diana’s voice and we hear very, very often how desperate she was back then,” said Begasse.
Lady Diana’s fall of the stairs in the 4th month
“When I was four months pregnant with William, I threw myself down the stairs to get my husband’s attention, to get him to listen to me. But he just said, ‘You’re setting the false alarm,’ says Diana amongst other things.

Podcast “important today”
Sure, opinionated, on the 12: “important today” is not just a news podcast. We set topics and initiate debates – with poise and sometimes uncomfortably. Host Michel Abdollahi and his team speak out for this stern– and RTL reporters: inside with the most exciting people from politics, society and entertainment. They let all voices have their say, the quiet and the loud. Anyone who hears “important today” starts the day informed and can have a sound say.
Just a faux pas?
The episode also deals with the plagiarism allegations against the green candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock, who has apparently copied several passages in a book without citing the source. Is that sloppy – or is it justifiably in the pillory for it? Moderator Michel Abdollahi argues about this with “stern”-Reporter Kerstin Herrnkind and – reporter Axel Vornbäum.
