Brigitte Bardot had directed insults against hunters in a post on her website and called them “terrorists of the animal world” among other things. For this she was convicted by a court in northern France.
Because the French ex-actress Brigitte Bardot had insulted the head of the French Hunters Association, she has now been fined a total of 7,000 euros. According to matching media reports, a court in Arras in northern France found the 86-year-old, who did not attend the hearing, guilty of the insult on Tuesday.
Brigitte Bardot calls hunters “cowardly subhumans”
In a post on the website of her animal welfare foundation, Bardot described hunters as “vile cowardly subhumans” and “terrorists of the animal world”. Willy Schraen, 51, the head of the French hunting association, named them as a “blatant example” of this. The association then sued the former actress after he claimed to have received death threats. The hunting association was “very satisfied” with the verdict against the former sex symbol. Bardot enjoyed success as a film actress in the 1950s and 60s and also worked as a model.
With the verdict, Bardot must remove the post on the page. In addition to the actual fine of 5000 euros, Bardot has to pay compensation of 1000 euros to Schraen. She also has to pay the court costs of 1000 euros.
Politically, Bardot is located in the far right camp. In 2012, she supported right-wing populist Marine Le Pen in the presidential election campaign. Bardot’s husband, Bernard d’Ormale was a long-time advisor to the right-wing extremist Front National party.
