Turner provided some details of the new album in dialogue with Big Issue and expressed: “On this record, science fiction is off the table. We have returned to earth. I think we’ve gotten closer to a better version of an overall more dynamic sound with this record. The strings on this record go in and out of focus and that was a deliberate move and I hope everything has its own space. There’s a time when the band comes to the front and then the strings come to the front.”
Later, the Sheffield native explained that The Car it’s a “stronger” sounding work and seems connected to the band’s beginnings in 2002, when they followed their own instinct: “You have to follow your instincts the same way you did in the first place”.
