15 years after his death, Luciano Pavarotti receives a special honor in Hollywood. The legendary star tenor has been immortalized with a star on the “Walk of Fame”.
Italian star tenor Luciano Pavarotti has been honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame a decade and a half after his death. The plaque was unveiled on Wednesday (local time). It is already the 2730th star on the famous sidewalk in the heart of Hollywood. As a guest speaker, US conductor James Conlon paid tribute to the singer’s achievements. For the family, Cristina Pavarotti – one of three daughters from her first marriage – attended the ceremony.
Cristina Pavarotti said in her speech that she had always been a big fan of her father. It is an “enormous honor” to represent her father here. It makes her really “dizzy” to look back on all his achievements and awards. The Italian remembered her father with a few anecdotes. So he patiently fulfilled autograph requests after every performance – still in his costume – because none of his fans should go away empty-handed. Her speech in Italian was then translated.
Born in Modena in 1935, Pavarotti was one of the most important tenors of the 20th century. He was at home in all the major opera houses in the world. He is also known for his benefit concerts “Pavarotti & Friends”, where he sang in duet with international rock and pop stars. He died on September 6, 2007 at the age of 71 as a result of cancer.
