Britney Spears on duet with Elton John: ‘It’s a big deal’

Britney Spears has recently made headlines more with turbulence and privacy than with her music. Her duet with Elton John – “a big deal” for her – could herald a comeback for the singer.

The US pop singer Britney Spears has shared her anticipation about a joint song with Elton John on Twitter. “Okie dokie… my first song in six years!” wrote the 40-year-old on Wednesday. It was “damn cool” that she was singing “with one of the most legendary men of this era,” she said, linking Elton John. “I’m kind of overwhelmed… this is a big deal to me!”

At a surprise performance on Tuesday on the Côte d’Azur in Cannes, Elton John had already presented the song “Hold Me Closer”. It’s a remake of his 1971 title Tiny Dancer.

Duet a musical comeback for Britney Spears

“Britney Spears, Elton John, let’s go,” said the 75-year-old, according to a report in the newspaper “Nice-Matin” at the start of his unannounced short concert. He also announced that the song will be released on Friday.

Spears continued on Twitter that she is meditating a lot at the moment and is learning to see every day as a fresh start. “Yes, I choose happiness today. I tell myself every day to let go of the hurt bitterness and try to forgive myself and others for what may have been hurtful.”

The cooperation with the British superstar is a musical comeback for Spears, it had already been said in media reports. The singer has been under guardianship since 2008 after she collapsed mentally due to personal and professional problems. In September last year, a judge finally relieved the father of his guardianship. In November, the singer regained full control of her life.
