She rages, she rages, she delights: As a king, Lina Beckmann is a roaring theater event. Theater critics once again named her best actress of the year.
Four hours of theater, something with Shakespeare – some viewers could get a little scared. But after about two hours, which have passed like a football game in which people shoot at goal every minute, one wishes that this drama would never end. The reason stands on the slightly tipping round stage, a beast, a sadist, a ruler who has risen from the fires of hell: King Richard III, the hunchbacked Duke of Gloucester, who has large parts of the palace assassinated. His face is reminiscent of the Joker moving from Gotham City to central England. His laugh sounds as winning as Jack Nicholson’s in The Shining. A childish tyrant who goes to war on a rocking horse.
