Carsten Maschmeyer: He was dependent on tablets

For years Carsten Maschmeyer swallowed sleeping pills “like tic-tac candies”, confesses the “Den of the Lion” star in his new book.

About the “very personal hell” in “Die Höhle der Löwen”: Carsten Maschmeyer (62) has been one of the guarantors of success for many years in the founder show. But his existence as an entrepreneur also has downsides, as the husband of Veronica Ferres (56) describes in his new book “The six elements of success” (in stores from September 7th). Because in it he confesses, among other things, that he was addicted to pills for a long time.

Because he was often unable to fall asleep due to stress, he had a prescription for sleeping pills over a decade ago: “Stilnox, a drug that has a similar effect to Valium,” quoted from the book. But after initially taking the normal dosage, at some point he swallowed the tablets “like tic-tac candies” – “quite casually, so that nobody noticed”.

His wife helped him out of “hell”

It was only thanks to his wife Veronica, his “only positive straw”, that he found his way out of “hell” around ten years ago. Through her he found the strength to “fight for everything to change, that this day will be the first day of my new life.”

With success: since the third season of “Die Höhle der Löwen” Maschmeyer has been a constant member of the group of investors who haggle over the best deals. This is also the case in season ten of the TV show, which can be seen from September 6th (8:15 pm, VOX).
