Princess Diana liked to drive herself, with a bodyguard in the passenger seat. One of her cars has now been sold at auction for a six-figure sum.
A former Princess Diana’s car has fetched £650,000 (€765,000) at auction. The ex-wife of heir to the throne Prince Charles drove the black Ford Escort RS Turbo from August 23, 1985 to May 1, 1988.
The former daughter-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II liked to drive herself, with a bodyguard in the passenger seat. A British bidder won the auction at Saturday’s Silverstone circuit, the PA news agency reported.
The car only has a good 40,000 kilometers on the clock and is considered unique as it is said to be the only black model in the RS Turbo Series 1. At the request of the London police’s bodyguards, the manufacturer installed, among other things, an additional rear-view mirror for the bodyguard.
In June 2021, another Ford Escort, which Diana received as an engagement gift from Prince Charles in 1981, was bought at auction for £52,000 by a museum in Chile. The extremely popular princess was killed in a car accident in Paris almost exactly 25 years ago, on August 31, 1997. She wasn’t at the wheel at the time.
