Lady Diana would have turned 60: from kindergarten teacher to worldwide style icon

The then 19-year-old bought the blue model in London’s Harrods department store after she was turned away by the court tailor Bellville Sassoon. On the other hand, the ring that sparkled on Diana’s hand was top-class: a piece of jewelry made of 14 diamonds, an oval sapphire and 18 carat white gold. Today it is worn by Duchess Catherine, the wife of Diana’s older son William.

Catherine Walker was Diana’s favorite designer

When traveling abroad, Lady Diana’s wardrobe quickly became a political issue. However, she was always diplomatic and tried to adapt her clothing to the customs of the host country. For example, when she visited Japan in 1986, she wore a red-dotted wrap dress, among other things. The red dots paid homage to the land of the rising sun, whose flag shows a red disk of the sun on a white background.

The British Catherine Walker was one of Lady Diana’s favorite designers. The fashion designer created dresses for the Princess of Wales for 16 years. After Walker’s death in 2010, her husband took over the fashion line of the label, because Duchess Catherine, the wife of Diana’s son William, also likes to wear the brand’s designs in public appearances. In this way she continues the legacy of her mother-in-law, even if she never got to know Diana personally.
