Actress : Jessica Schwarz on the forest fires in Portugal

Many regions of southern Europe suffer from forest fires. The actress Jessica Schwarz knows from her own experience what life feels like under this constant threat.

Actress Jessica Schwarz (45) witnessed the devastating forest fires in her new home in Portugal.

“What’s bad right now is the Sierra Estreia. It’s been burning there for almost three weeks now,” Schwarz told the German Press Agency in Hamburg. “And unfortunately we also had a fire in our town in Setúbal that we could see from our property,” the actress said. No one was killed, but acquaintances actually had to vacate their house because a property next door had burned. The actress has been living in Portugal with her husband Louis Beckmann for two years. Together the two run a small hotel in a nature reserve near Lisbon.

“The restlessness accompanies you all the time. It happens so quickly, especially due to the winds, which change frequently there,” said the actress. “The fear is always there.” It hasn’t rained in the area for nine weeks. “It just hurts when you see what burns away there in a short time.” People who still have doubts about climate change cannot understand them. “How can you turn a blind eye to what’s happening everywhere?”

The tragic comedy “Over & Out” will be released in German cinemas on Wednesday (August 31). In it, the three friends Lea (Jessica Schwarz), Steffi (Julia Becker) and Toni (Petra Schmidt-Schaller) go on a road trip to Italy, where their friend Maja (Nora Tschirner) wants to celebrate their wedding. When they get there, the three friends are in for a nasty surprise: Maja didn’t invite them to her wedding, but to her funeral! In order to fulfill their friend’s last wish, the three different friends pull themselves together and finally face the uncomfortable truths in their lives.
