On Friday, the show got an early renewal for season 2, at which point HBO he said the audience for the premiere had grown to 20 million. Now, the network says that number is closer to 25 million.
The hearing of House of the Dragon hasn’t come close to season 8 of game of Thrones, which was viewed by 17.9 million when it premiered and 10.3 million with its second episode. However, while game of Thrones became the most watched series of HBO of all time throughout its eight years on the air, the network’s most recent hits with fewer years of “fandom” are a fairer comparison to the beginning of House of the Dragon. For example euphoria sits at the top of that list as it officially became the second biggest hit of HBO in the story in February during its second season.
Season 2 episode 2 of euphoria attracted 2.6 million viewers, 292% less than “The Scoundrel Prince”, episode 2 of House of the Dragon. In fact, both episodes of the series based on the novel fire & blood of George R.R. Martin they have so far surpassed the viewership of any individual episode of euphoriawhich peaked at 6.6 million in its Season 2 finale.
