At the invitation of Jazzfreunde Bad Ischl, Emilian Tantana, who was awarded the state’s Golden Culture Medal, was able to welcome a remarkable representative of French jazz to the pretty PKS Villa Rothstein.
Céline Bonacina primarily plays the mighty baritone sax and occasionally switches to the soprano. With the bassist Gildas Boclé and the drummer Jean-Luc Di Fraya, she has cunning, experienced musicians at her disposal, who also convince as soloists. Most of the pieces are by Bonacina, compact statements that combine classic jazz with French charm and North African heritage. Her grumpy baritone sounds elegant and light-footed, her soprano playful and eloquent. Bass and drums arrange themselves smoothly around the blower. Unaccompanied solos and talkative duos bring additional excitement. (haun)
