Prince Andrew has set out again to visit the Queen at Balmoral Castle. There could be legal reasons for this.

Their destination was Balmoral, the Queen’s summer residence, where they had vacationed a few weeks ago. Now there could be another reason for the visit.

For days, Andrew’s security guards are said to have turned away US lawyers on his doorstep in Windsor who wanted to deliver legal documents to the Royal. There have been “multiple attempts”, reports the newspaper “The Sun”. The law stipulates that complaints must be served personally. There are various loopholes to avoid this delivery. Not being home is one thing.
“Andrew has been completely freaked out at the Royal Lodge in the last few weeks. He did not go horseback riding and could not go outside because someone tried to deliver the legal papers to him,” said a source for the Sun. “He knows he’s a lot safer at Balmoral on the queen’s estate,” the source says.
The application cannot be served
In August, the American Virginia Roberts Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit in New York for the sexual abuse of a minor. Since then, Andrew and his lawyers have been vehemently silent. The fact that he now avoids accepting the application complicates the entire legal process. The first oral hearing is scheduled for September 13 – and the defendant has 21 days to respond to the allegations.
Prince Andrew’s game of hide and seek is unlikely to bring him much in the long run. When a defendant cannot be reached in person, attorneys can file a request for service by public notice in court. Prince Andrew could even reach them at Balmoral Castle.
