A central theme of this year’s Venice Film Festival are scenes that take place within the family. Such themes are taken up in “Bardo”, “Bones and all” and “Monica”, among others. The Ukraine war also plays a role, and the message from the Ukrainian President during the opening was not the only time the war was an issue. The Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa presented his film “The Kiev Trial” about the Minsk war crimes trial in 1946, two other Ukrainian films are also in the program.
