Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup: a new edition begins tomorrow

The concerts of the Sans Souci Typical Orchestra -created in 1998 with the aim of rescuing the musical style of the typical orchestras of Miguel Caló and Osmar Maderna-, Lilí Gardés and Spinettango, the Cordovan group Los Altiyeros, created by Damián Torres Quinteto and the singer Santiago Muñiz to pay homage in tango key to Luis Alberto Spinetta, are some of the attractions of the grid.

During this year, calls were opened throughout the country where more than 300 artistic proposals were submitted, from which 70 percent of the programming for this edition emerged.

“This tango meeting has evolved over the years thanks to the team that has always worked to make it happen and to the tango community and the public that accompanies and enjoys it every time”, reflected the director. “Last year we courageously moved forward, despite the difficulties posed by the pandemic. This 2022, with renewed energy, the festival will focus on the promotion and dissemination of tango as a cultural fact in all its splendor, understanding the importance of the unmissable tango encounter in the City and the world”, he added.

Close to the 100th anniversary of its construction, the Palacio Barolo joins as the venue for the festival, and in its central hall Del Bajo Quinteto will play this Thursday at 7:00 p.m., a group dedicated to the creation and dissemination of new tango; its members are students and graduates of the Astor Piazzolla and Manuel de Falla music conservatories.

On Tuesday, September 13, the Preliminary Gala will be held in the Usina del Arte Auditorium; an evening to honor couples who come from different parts of the country and the world. These dancers will be present at the festival’s itinerant Milongas (touring 14 Buenos Aires tracks). In addition, like every year, the festival proposes an open microphone for tango performers.

The qualifying rounds of the Tango World Cup will take place at the Usina del Arte. The Pista Tango competition will take place on September 9 and 10, while Stage Tango will take place on September 11 and 12. The Semifinals will be on September 14 for Pista Tango and on September 15 for Stage Tango, also at Usina del Arte.
