Xavier Naidoo will not appear at the Thurn und Taxis Palace Festival in the coming year either. The organizers emphasize that this is not a political decision. The city is happy anyway.
Xavier Naidoo will not appear in Regensburg in 2022. In contrast to other Thurn und Taxis Castle Festival events, there is no alternative date for the controversial singer’s concert in the coming year.
Unfortunately, despite all efforts, the organizer Odeon Concerte announced on Wednesday that this was not possible. “The concert must therefore be canceled.”
The city leaders welcome the concert organizer’s decision, announced the city of Regensburg. Last year, Lord Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer (SPD) asked the organizer to reconsider the decision for the concert: People who spread extremist, racist or right-wing extremist ideas should not have a platform in a cosmopolitan and liberal society.
The owner of Odeon Concerte, Reinhard Söll, said: “Of course, politics had no influence on the decision.” No date had been found and an agreement was reached with Naidoo’s agency. The ticket prices would be reimbursed. The concert was planned in July as part of the castle festival and was canceled due to the corona pandemic.
Planned performances by Naidoo are becoming a political issue again and again. The singer has been spreading conspiracy myths for years, most recently from the QAnon movement. He made controversial statements about the corona pandemic. He performed with so-called Reich Citizens. Political lines of text brought him accusations of racism, which the singer denies himself. A concert in Hof, for example, was canceled last year. In Rostock, after a long dispute, it was decided in June that Naidoo could perform there.
