In this third edition, a series of letters will be read that make up the correspondence of the author of novels such as “Spring in a broken corner” and “La trugua” with Idea Vilariño, the poet with whom he maintained a very long friendship and, as reported by the foundation, the selection was made by Silvia Guerra and Diane Denoir, members of the Foundation Council.

“Mario Benedetti’s literature traverses time and territory. He is an internationally read and admired writer and a fundamental figure in Ibero-American culture. His texts inspired audiovisual and scenic works, his poetry was turned into a song. Arriving with his stories, in 2020, with his poems in 2021 and this year with the correspondence with Idea Vilariño, another fundamental figure in our literature, in the voice of exceptional artists, it seemed to us the best way to celebrate his anniversary”, says Onaindia about the decision of the reading material of this edition.
Born in 1920 in Paso de los Toros and registered under the name of Mario Orlando Hardy Hamlet Brenno Benedetti, the Uruguayan author wrote more than 80 works including poems, novels, short stories, essays, plays, humorous chronicles and film scripts. such as “Poems of the office”, “Inventory”, the novel “The Coffee Eraser”, the stories “Montevideans”, “The Budget”, “Uriarte Family” and the play “Pedro and the Captain”.
