Jérôme Boateng was convicted of willful assault on Thursday. The public prosecutor is now examining an appeal.
Footballer Jérôme Boateng (33) was sentenced to a million fine on Thursday (September 9th). The Munich District Court found him guilty of willful bodily harm to an ex-partner. Boateng was fined 1.8 million euros. He has to pay 60 daily rates of 30,000 euros each.
The prosecutor is now considering an appeal. “We are currently examining whether we should take legal action,” said spokeswoman Anne Leiding on Friday, according to matching media reports.
What was the court about?
The former FC Bayern player had to answer in court on charges of bodily harm and insult. A former partner had accused him of attacking her in 2018. Boateng denied the allegations in court. Before the verdict, the public prosecutor had demanded a suspended sentence of one and a half years and an additional fine of 1.5 million euros.
Jérôme Boateng is under contract with the Olympique Lion club until 2023. Before that, he played for FC Bayern Munich for ten years. In 2014, the footballer became world champion in Brazil with the German national team.
