Culture Report: Expenditure increased by 25.5 million

That is an increase of 25.5 million euros compared to 2020. This does not include the Corona aid measures. A total of around 358.6 million euros were paid out in 2020 and 2021. “The preservation of cultural diversity in our country was one of the most important cultural-political goals and has been successful,” says State Secretary for the Arts and Culture Andrea Mayer (Greens).

As far as the funds paid out with the Covid 19 crisis management fund are concerned, the bridging financing for artists from the social insurance for the self-employed (SVS) made up the largest chunk at 175 million euros. 140.3 million of these were paid out. The regular funding expenditure in the field of art came to 117.7 million euros in 2021. That is an increase of 19.5 million euros. Additional expenditure flowed into fair pay measures, the Theater in der Josefstadt and the general renovation of the Bregenz Festival, among other things. In the field of culture, 354.8 million euros were spent, around six million euros more than in 2020.

More money for the Albertina

The basic payment for federal museums rose from 87.9 to 89.1 million euros. The Albertina was able to look forward to an increase of 1.5 million euros in basic compensation (9.2 million), whereby this can be attributed to the opening of the Albertina modern. There was little movement at the other federal museums. At the federal theaters, the basic payment for 2020/21 was 162.9 million euros and was therefore exactly as high as in the comparison period 2018/19. 66.1 million euros went to the State Opera, 47.4 million euros to the Burgtheater, 44 million euros to the Volksoper and 5.5 million euros to the Bundestheater-Holding.
