For years they stood together on the stage at Ballermann. Today, around four months after the tragic death of actor and pop star Willi Herren (1975-2021), his colleague Ikke Hüftgold (44) remembers the drug and addiction problems of his deceased friend. Gentlemen have “lost each other and that very early on,” explains Hüftgold, whose real name is Matthias Distel.
“He got into ‘Lindenstrasse’ when he was eight or nine years old. When a boy comes from a normal or humble background and is then hyped so and everyone tears at that in his youth … if he doesn’t have a strong environment or a strong one Has character, then at some point he will succumb to some kind of drug or addiction – or succumb. And that was the case with Willi, “says Distel.
Ikke Hüftgold: “I was often there when it escalated”
He was often there “when it escalated” and got men out of one or the other “very serious situation”. “When he came into contact with drugs, he was the devil and, without drugs, an absolute heart person. That shows the power drugs have.”
Willi Herren was found dead on April 20 in his Cologne apartment. At the beginning of September the public prosecutor’s office in Cologne completed its investigation into his death: These had not revealed any “indications of third-party negligence”. At the beginning of May he was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne.
