Unlike originally planned, the event was private, supposedly because Harry wanted to keep the press in check. Onlookers and Diana fans gathered in front of the gates of the Kensington Palace. According to British media reports, William and Harry walked side by side to the scene and even exchanged a few words. Also in attendance were Diana’s siblings, the Earl Spencer, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes. It remains to be seen whether they were able to bury the hatchet on their mother’s birthday or just act dutifully.
