King Charles III: That’s how he found out about the Queen’s agony

That his mother is dying, the new King Charles III. didn’t find out much earlier than the rest of the world either. When the call came, George W. Bush’s daughter was there.

Last Thursday, a report shocked the world in the early afternoon: The Queen’s doctors were concerned about Her Majesty’s health. A short time later, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96. As reported by several British media, her eldest son Charles was not informed of this earlier.

Prince Charles, as the current king was then called, was with his wife Camilla at Dumfries House in Scotland when he received the call. Camilla was supposed to be interviewed by Jenna Bush Hager. The daughter of former US President George W. Bush is a journalist and works for the “Today Show”.

Jenna Bush Hager wanted to interview Camilla

In the show, the 40-year-old reported on the experience: The interview had been planned for a year. Actually, the meeting should have taken place the night before, but Camilla’s flight had been postponed. The Bush daughter had dinner with Prince Charles – on his last evening as a prince.

The next day she was supposed to meet Camilla at half past one UK time. Then Jenna Bush Hager suddenly heard hectic footsteps in the hallway. The phone rang and she was asked to be quiet. A helicopter was heard shortly afterwards.

As she later learned, Charles and Camilla were in it – on their way to Balmoral Castle. Bush Hager was informed shortly thereafter that the interview would not take place. A year of preparation and contact initiation was wasted.

This means that the time when the new king learned of his mother’s agony can be dated fairly precisely. Apparently only slightly earlier than the rest of the world.
