At the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II: David Beckham waited twelve hours

The eyes of the world are on central London. Authorities are now warning of the arrival – the queue for the last audience with Queen Elizabeth II is too full. One who made it: David Beckham.

At 2 a.m. on Friday morning, a smartly dressed man with a flat cap and an umbrella stands in what is probably the world’s most famous queue – “The Queue”. Those who want to pay their last respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II and pass the coffin of the monarch in Westminster Hall line up there.

But the man is not a banker or politician, as is often the case with men in suits in central London, but star footballer David Beckham. Correct: Prominence apparently does not protect against waiting.

Beckham waited from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m

Beckham hadn’t chosen the time randomly – he thought it would give him an advantage. He told ITV broadcaster: “I thought if I came at 2am it would be a little quieter, but I was wrong.” That’s right, in the end Beckham, for whose autograph sessions people certainly also wait a long time, should have stood in line for twelve hours himself.

Beckham seems to see the hardships, which are certainly extraordinary for such a prominent British star, as part of the visit – not as a necessary evil. The world footballer told Sky News: “The Queen’s departure is a sad day for me, but a day that will always be remembered. It’s very special for me to hear all the stories from people here.”

In 2003 he met the Queen personally

Beckham has had the honor of visiting the Queen while she was alive. In 2003, when the Queen had awarded him the Order of the British Empire, he visited the Queen with his grandparents. “I’ve been very fortunate to have a few moments with Her Majesty in my life,” he said.

After a good twelve hours in the queue, the time had finally come: David Beckham had the opportunity to say goodbye to his queen. He later said, “It’s very emotional, and the stillness and mood of the room is hard to explain.”

This is probably one of the reasons why countless people continue to wait endlessly to experience this special moment for themselves. But there is hardly anything negative to say about the discipline and focus of those waiting – you don’t hear much about crowds of people and annoying selfie orgies during Beckham’s half-day wait. As the “” reports, folders along the queue also ensured that Beckham and fans had to point out from time to time that there was no time for photos. But most of the time, it is said, out of “mutual respect” they simply left each other alone.
