“Since its foundation, in 1896, the collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts has been increasing through donations and acquisitions, and currently reaches a number of more than 13,000 pieces, a figure that constitutes it in one of the most important memories views of our country. This exhibition presents a selection of the latest admissions”, said the director of the Fine Arts, Andrés Duprat, about the recent additions.
While some works were donated by their authors or their descendants, others came to the Museum thanks to collectors and others through the work of Amigos del Bellas Artes and Banco Ciudad, thanks to the shared funds program promoted by ArteBA.
Among the works on display, you can see two photographs entitled “Plastic Exercise”, taken by Heinrich in the famous mural; “Composition No. 4, an ink on paper by Del Prete (1950); another work by Grela, in tempera (1956); an ink on paper by Gerstein (1956) and another by Hlito (1975); the diptych “Fire in the mountains” by Prior (1997) and an ink on paper by Dermisache (ca. 1997-2006).
Already from the 21st century will be the photography “Silos. Puerto Madero”, registered by Sessa in 2001; the acrylic on paper “Nothing happens twice, no. 12”, by De Sagastizábal (2003); the ink on paper “Closed generating line plus additional squares” (2010), by Moisset de Espanés; Nijensohn’s diptych of images entitled “The cycle of intensity #6060 (Bolivia)” (2017), and the triptych “Action drawing”, made in pencil by Ballesteros (2018).
Every year, the Fine Arts presents to the public the new works that enter through the National Award for Artistic Career. “This public contest distinguishes our most famous authors and, at the same time, enriches the collection with key pieces of the history of Argentine art,” said Duprat about the award, granted by the Ministry of Culture of the Nation.
In the next few days, the winners of the 2022 edition of the contest will be announced, whose works will be exhibited in December at the Museum.
Room 33 on the first floor, where the works will be displayed, can be visited during the same hours as the Museum: Tuesday to Friday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free admission, at Avenida del Libertador 1473, in the City of Buenos Aires.
