According to an advisor, Queen Elizabeth II spoke about her horses until shortly before her death. He met the Queen on her last weekend in Scotland, John Warren, who had advised the Queen on horse breeding and racing, told the British PA news agency.
“We sat together for hours over the weekend to strategize and make plans for the future.” Then both would have phoned again on Tuesday evening (September 6th). “She was completely mentally healthy and in great shape,” Warren said. It is unimaginable that the Queen died less than 48 hours later.
Successful as a breeder
The queen was a big fan of horses, she liked to ride horses often. As a breeder, she had several successes that she celebrated emotionally. In all, the queen is said to have owned around 180 horses and ponies, spread across various residences and stables around the kingdom.
Warren said the Queen had tears in her eyes after her horse Estimate won the famous Ascot race in 2013. The monarch “virtually galloped” as she walked from the Royal Box to the paddock and gave “Estimate” a “wonderful and well-deserved pat.”
“It was very touching to see the Queen focus solely on this creature that had done something for her. That was remarkable,” Warren said. He was an advisor to the Queen for more than 13 years. “I was fortunate to be so close to her through our shared fascination.”
