British Royalty: William and Harry unveil statue of Princess Diana

In memory of their mother Diana, the quarreling brothers Prince William and Prince Harry get together – at least for a day.

Prince William and Prince Harry have unveiled a statue in London in memory of their mother Diana, who died 24 years ago.

The two British princes stood side by side on Thursday, Lady Di’s birthday, and pulled down a cloth from the statue, as can be seen on television pictures.

The memorial stands in the redesigned Sunken Garden on the grounds of Kensington Palace, which was considered one of the favorite places of the Princess of Wales. Diana would have turned 60 on Thursday. She was killed in a tragic car accident in 1997 while fleeing from paparazzi reporters in Paris.

“Every day we wish that she was still with us, and our hope is that this statue will forever be seen as a symbol of her life and heritage,” said Harry and William in a joint statement.

Remember their love, strength and character – “qualities that would have made them a force for the good in the world”. The sons commissioned the memorial – designed by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley – in 2017.

The relationship between William (39) and Harry (36) is considered tense. The reason is serious allegations by the younger brother against the royal family. Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan, had given up their royal duties a good year ago and moved to the United States.

The unveiling of the statue is the brothers’ second joint public appointment after Harry’s farewell from the royal family. In April he had already attended Prince Philip’s funeral with the family.
