The last aristocratic wedding of the ducal family of Mecklenburg, which was celebrated in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, was a long time ago. Now the bells could ring again in the town church of Neustrelitz. Hereditary Prince Georg Alexander zu Mecklenburg and the 29-year-old Dutchwoman Hande Macit publicly said yes on Saturday in front of around 500 guests. The 31-year-old is the eldest son of the von Mecklenburg-Strelitz family, who otherwise lives in Breisgau but have had more intensive contacts in the Mecklenburg-Strelitz region since 1990. A minute’s silence was also observed in the Catholic Mass for the late British Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). The couple has been legally married since mid-June 2022 and otherwise lives a middle-class life in Rotterdam. Around 100 onlookers had gathered in front of the town church to cheer the couple moving out. Georg Alexander’s father, 66-year-old Georg Borwin, has been head of the entire Mecklenburg-Ducal House since 2001 – the end of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin line.
