US actor Brad Pitt is world famous for the films he has starred in. Many do not know that he is otherwise artistically active – but can now convince himself of his works in Finland.
What is Brad Pitt doing in Finland? The Hollywood star has paid a visit to the northernmost EU country to exhibit art sculptures he has created for the first time.
As announced by the Sara Hildén Art Museum in the Finnish city of Tampere, Pitt’s works can also be seen in an exhibition by the visual artist Thomas Houseago, as well as ceramic figures by the Australian musician Nick Cave. Pitt and Cave are already known in film and music, but this is the first time they have exhibited their artwork, the museum wrote. They were created during an ongoing dialogue with Houseago.
Exhibition open to visitors until mid-January
The exhibition “Thomas Houseago – We with Nick Cave & Brad Pitt” has been on display for visitors since Sunday and until mid-January 2023 in the city a good 150 kilometers north of Helsinki. Pitt told the Finnish radio station Yle at the opening on Saturday that for him the sculptures are about self-reflection. “It’s about where I went wrong in my relationships, where did I go wrong, where am I complicit,” the actor said. It’s about a radical self-assessment, in which he wanted to be “really brutally honest” with himself.
Pitt reportedly tried pottery after his divorce from actress Angelina Jolie. As the “Guardian” reported on Tuesday, he is said to have spent up to 15 hours a day in Houseago’s studio in Los Angeles in 2017.
