Talking with Guardian, a spokesperson for the championships called Hardy a “really nice guy”. “Everyone recognized him, but he was very humble and happy to take time out for people to take pictures with him,” the spokesman said. “It was a real pleasure to have him compete in our event”.

Saturday’s shocking appearance in Milton Keynes is the second time in recent months that Hardy has entered a martial arts tournament unannounced. In August, the star of Mad Max: Fury Road won the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton, England.

“I recognized him immediately. Everybody knows who Tom Hardy is, right? Danny ApplebyHardy’s opponent at Wolverhampton, told his local paper, Teeside Gazette, after confronting the actor. “I was shocked. He said ‘forget it’s me and do what you normally would’.”

Appleby continued: “He’s a really strong guy”, he continued, “you wouldn’t think so being a celebrity. I do well, I’ve done about six tournaments and I’ve been on the podium in all of them. But he’s probably the toughest competitor I’ve ever had; he certainly lived up to his Bane character, that’s for sure.”
