They also specified that a large part of the data collected for the filming belongs to the “Anne Chapman Anthropological Documentation and Research Center”, which depends on the Untdf and was created in 2013 as a result of the donation of material made by a non-governmental organization from Ushuaia.
“In the middle of the 20th century and after 40 years, Chapman worked in Tierra del Fuego to understand, rescue and communicate the cultural baggage of Fuegian societies. It was a difficult time for a solitary woman and also a foreigner who dared to explore the End of the World,” they stressed.
The documentary will be directed by Ludmila Rogel and Guido De Paula, and will seek a look that emphasizes identity and time.
There will be an attempt to “immortalize the meeting between Lola Kiepja, the last Selk’nam shaman (one of the Fuegian peoples) and Chapman, through their archives and the memories of the Fuegian community. As Anne and Lola are dead, this film it’s also about how to bring them to life and why,” explained the filmmaking team.
The institutional project -which is in the development stage- was selected last June to participate in the “European Cinema Meeting” Writing Workshop and the “Bariloche Audiovisual Festival”, specifically in the “Projects Under Construction” section.
The work was also chosen to be part of the “ARCA International Residency” to be held in Chile.
De Paula will travel to Bariloche to participate in the festival and in October Rogel will go to Puerto Williams to participate in ARCA, they confirmed from the Untdf. In turn, the production team works in parallel on managing the financing for the project.
“The fact that the initiative, even though it is in the development phase, has been selected to participate in three events, shows the potential it has,” the filmmakers highlighted.
The executive production of the documentary is in charge of Juan Pablo Lattanzi and the general producer is Silvana Jaldín Villarroel, while Ezequiel Méndez Coria is the head of production and José Pera is in charge of sound.
