With focus on the 40 years of Malvinas, Conabip celebrates the Day of Popular Libraries

In the afternoon, the authorities will make an offering at the Heroes of Malvinas sculptural mural (National Monument declared by Law 25,384) -located in the Plaza Islas Malvinas in the city of Ushuaia- together with the authors, in tribute to the soldiers and combatants .

As part of the celebration agenda, “Malvinas: childhood memories in times of war” will be presented, a publication that brings together chronicles and written and illustrated stories. The work was carried out with 27 authors and authors together with Argentine illustrators born between 1966 and 1980, whose childhoods were spent in various locations in the country or in exile.

The book, which has free distribution in popular libraries in Argentina, is also available in digital format.

The members of the project were summoned by the organization with the aim of recovering the child’s gaze, emotional memory, daily life in the context of the Malvinas war and the civic-military dictatorship, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 40 years of Malvinas and to reaffirm the slogans around the sovereignty of Argentina over the Malvinas, Georgias, South Sandwich Islands and surrounding maritime spaces.

The Argentine writer María Teresa Andruetto, author of titles such as “Lengua madre” and “Los spotted”, was in charge of selecting the authors and writing the prologue of the book. For her part, the illustrator Isol Misenta did the cover art.

The authors and illustrators that make up the work are: Fernanda García Lao, Roberta Iannamico, María Elina Méndez, Luciano Saracino, Mariano Quirós, Matías Trillo, Ariel Williams, Julián Axat, Poly Bernatene, Marcelo Guerrieri, Patricia Suárez, Cynthia Orensztajn, Alejandra Kamiya , Eduardo Sacheri, Costhanzo, Gustavo Murillo, Sergio De Matteo, Nicolás Arispe, Viviana Ayilef, Silvia Mellado, Pablo Bernasconi, Natalia Ferreyra, Leo Oyola, Raquel Cané, María Pía López.

During the event that will take place in Ushuaia, there will also be the president of Conabip, María del Carmen Bianchi, and the Minister of Culture of the Nation, Tristán Bauer.

The activity will be replicated in the towns of Santa Rosa, province of La Pampa with the presence of Neuquén author Silvia Mellado and Pampas writer Sergio de Matteo; in Oberá, province of Misiones and Mariano Quirós will be present. For their part, Alejandra Kamiya and Marcelo Guerrieri will participate in the presentation of the book in Chascomús, province of Buenos Aires, and the illustrator Poly Bernatene will be in the city of San Juan.
