Recognized as a painter – and as an authority in the family

In 1979 the Johnsons divorced. In 1988 she married the American historian Nicholas Wahl, who died in 1996. Charlotte Johnson Wahl was recognized as a painter, she made a name for herself above all for her portraits.

At the age of 40, Johnson Wahl was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, but that didn’t stop her from painting. Boris Johnson described his mother, who was supposedly the only one in the family to be inclined to left-wing ideas, as his “highest authority”.
