Kraftklub are back – and that’s a good thing

And that’s very good. Because album no. 4 shows the quintet in fine form, a clear increase in quality compared to the mediocre predecessor “Keine Nacht für Nobody” (2017). “Kargo” is pure power club again, i.e. a casual hybrid of rap and punk rock, crisp shout-along refrains and clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with a pronounced penchant for wordplay.

Already the self-referential opening, “Part of this band”, which deals with its own history, is a real hit, as is the furious “One song is enough”, which is about lost love and the accompanying soundtrack. Of course, “Kargo” also gets political, especially in “Fourth September” (great), “Fear” (good) and “Wittenberg is not Paris” (well). “Fahr mit mir (4×4)”, a quirky collaboration with the Tokio Hotel colleagues, is surprisingly unembarrassing. Despite some slightly weaker songs like “Kein Gott, kein Staat, nur du”, “Blaues Licht” or “Die Zeit, you don’t care” – “Kargo” is a successful comeback that makes you want to go on the upcoming tour.
