According to the Festival website, the films that participate in the Perlak section are candidates for the City of Donostia / San Sebastián Audience Award, which will be awarded by the spectators attending the first public screening of each film in said section.

This distinction is made up of two different prizes: a 1st Prize for Best Film, endowed with 50,000 euros, and a 2nd Prize for Best European Film of 20,000 euros, which is destined for the distributor of the film in Spain.

The Perlak section is made up of a selection of outstanding feature films of the year, unreleased in Spain, which have been critically acclaimed and/or awarded at other international festivals, explains the Festival page.

Will he go to the Oscars?

The Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Argentina will announce this Monday at 8:00 p.m., at the CCK, the title of the film that will be shortlisted for the Oscar Awards, which its Hollywood counterpart will deliver on March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

As reported by the National Academy, the voting process remains open for the 250 members until Monday at 6:00 p.m., digitally and audited by a notary public.

Each member of the selection committee casts their vote indicating their three chosen films, in order of preference. The productions nominated to be chosen as the one that represents the country are 61 films, which have been or will be released in theaters between January 1 and November 30, 2022.

“Argentina, 1985”, by Santiago Miter and starring Ricardo Darín and Piter Lanzani, already selected for the Spanish Goya Awards, is the great candidate this year to compete for a chance at the Oscars. In recent years, the same film has always been chosen for both awards.

After the election of the Academy, the chosen film must overcome two instances by the Hollywood Academy to be among the five nominees for Best Foreign Film.

The last Argentine film to compete for the Hollywood Academy Awards was “Relatos Salvajes”, by Damián Szifón, in 2014. In 2010, “El secreto de sus ojos”, by Juan José Campanella, and in 1986, “La historia oficial”, by Luis Puenzo, were the two films that won the statuette.
