“Loves that connect”, beautiful immigration stories

The initiative began with the writer Daniel Balmaceda when memories of multiple visits to different cities were revived. After “Stories that Connect”, the company continued betting on the dissemination of events of interest in the cities where it operates. In the second season, the international chef Agustín Brañas was in charge of making a tour of the different cities to discover gastronomic secrets. We talked with Diana Arias.

Journalist: How do love stories connect with cities?

Diana Arias: They are everywhere, at all times. Some famous and others unknown, these cycle stories have their meeting point in the leading cities. Mar del Plata, Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn… it was easy to find them, because they abound. Then, yes, comes the research and writing work.

Q.: Are they true stories or is it fiction?

DA: They are all real. Of course, in most cases, the protagonists no longer live and it is their descendants who tell the facts, then emotions, memories and questions arise: in what year did they arrive in Argentina? When was the first time you saw each other? Why were they chosen? I am completing these questions with evidence (letters, photographs, records) and studying the context of each story.

Q.: How did you see the transfer of stories from paper to audiovisual?

DA: Each support has its magic. Reading the written stories leaves the reader a lot of freedom to imagine and recreate the landscapes, conflicts and characters. When there is audiovisual material, I think it is enjoyed in a different way, one gets carried away by what they tell him and sees.

Q.: What topics do they address?

DA: The stories speak of love, of human strength. They are topics so essential that they never end. They are a cut, a choice about what to tell and how to do it. Even more so in love stories, if they are forever, an idealized or romantic vision of love until death.
