Officials from Argentina and China launched joint audiovisual production and cultural week

The event, which lasted almost an hour, had a symbolic moment at the end when all the Argentine and Chinese participants touched a screen at the same time, each one in their own country, thousands of kilometers away, in order to give inaugurated the week of cultural exchange.

From Argentina, the Minister of Tourism, Matías Lammens; the president of the Télam news agency, Bernarda Llorente; the rector of the UBA, Ricardo Gelpi; the Chinese ambassador in Buenos Aires, Zou Xiaoli, together with the director of the Latin American Informative Alliance, Juan Carlos Isaza.

Parallel to the high-level bilateral forum and the week of cultural exchange, representatives of both governments today launched the program ‘Mirrors of Words’, produced jointly by Télam and the China Media Group, with the axis being that “both societies meet and deepen cultural ties”.

The program will be broadcast in the two countries on different platforms. At the same time, the Chinese media that were represented at the forum signed a cooperation agreement with the UBA with the aim of developing content that allows “bringing the people closer together”.

At the time of the speeches, Ambassador Vaca Narvaja read a congratulatory letter sent by President Alberto Fernández, in which the head of state pointed out that “Chinese culture is increasingly welcomed in Argentine society.”

“I note with satisfaction that the public media in Argentina and China forged a new understanding of knowledge with several documentaries,” Fernández stated in the letter shared by the diplomat.

In the letter, the president expressed his expectation that “the Chinese and Argentine media continue along this path together,” with “greater cooperation and cultural exchange between the two peoples.”

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also through a letter, stressed that “China and Argentina are good friends and partners who in the last 50 years have been able to build an exemplary cooperative relationship for emerging markets.”

Referring to the cultural exchange forum, Xi said the joint initiative “can open a new chapter” in the cultural relationship between the two nations, and from there, “a community society can be built.”

In his turn, Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero maintained that “for Argentina, cooperation and diversity are much more than simple words, they inspire our foreign policy as a dignified, peaceful and friendly country.”

For the foreign minister, concepts such as “cooperation” and “diversity” guide the Government of Argentina in “the search for greater well-being for those who inhabit it”, with the aim of “a peaceful and equitable world”.

In this sense, Cafiero considered it positive that “the panorama of joint actions is expanded” and pointed out that “the agreement between the China Media Group and the UBA will undoubtedly mean an advance in mutual knowledge, which is precisely one of the bases of the international cooperation, because each country does it from its own identity”.

“All these initiatives facilitate conversations on how to optimize trade between our two countries, financial links and the realization of specific projects. We have already generated bilateral instruments. There are, fully in force, the Framework Agreement for Economic Cooperation and Investment, the Complementary Agreement for Cooperation in Infrastructure, the Joint Action Plan 2019-2023 and all the cooperation opportunities that are opened within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative”, explained the head of Palacio San Martín.

Along the same lines, the Secretary of Public Communication, Juan Ross, highlighted “the value of having a public media crossover scheme between the two countries because China is a partner, a friend, a management partner.”

“There is great importance in the development of our peoples, not only economically but also culturally, so that cultural exchange allows us to recognize and understand each other between both peoples who have been fighting for social justice,” he added.

Ross also pointed out that “China has a strategic ally in Argentina for the development and dissemination of Chinese culture in our country.”

For her part, the assistant minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic, Hua Chunyng, stated: “The public media of both countries can play an irreplaceable role for the understanding of both peoples.”

Meanwhile, Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the China Media Group, said that the forum started today will have “transcendental meaning” because it shows that “there is hope in bilateral cooperation in this new era, in which cooperation and cultural exchange must be deepened between China and Argentina, which are countries with important emerging markets”.
