Online content can do great harm to young people. Prince William therefore wants to demand more security on the Internet.
The British heir to the throne, Prince William, has called for more safety for children on the Internet. “Online security for our children and young people must be a basic requirement,” the 40-year-old wrote on Twitter on Friday evening. He referred to the case of a 14-year-old girl who died a few years ago, which made headlines in the UK.
The 14-year-old was found dead in her room after viewing content on social media related to suicide, depression and related issues. William wrote that no parent should have to endure such a fate.
The girl’s father, after completing an investigation into the case this week, said he hopes the case is an “important step towards much-needed change”. Representatives of social media companies such as Pinterest and Meta had to be present in London to conclude the official investigation.
