A new edition of the Whale Project calls for a debate on freedom and democracy, at the CCK

“Until a few years ago the conjunction “freedom-democracy” expressed opposition to any form of absolutism, it meant respect for dissent, minorities, pluralism of opinion and information, separation between the public sphere of the State and the private sphere of the market, Instead today, that consensus of a society based on freedom and democracy as complementary and interdependent is blurred before the imperative of the destruction of one for the salvation of the other, supposedly threatened, “says the information.

Within the framework of the debates, the participants will seek to answer crucial questions: “Can we rescue freedom from the discourses that kidnap it to vindicate individualism and profit for profit? What freedom can we propose in the face of climate change, in the face of hunger, the destruction of the planet, violence as a shared language? What does freedom of expression mean in the framework of fake news and post-truth? Are we in a position to reach a consensus that affirms freedom as a value that is realized with others and not against others, which requires a State that strengthens it and not dissolves it?

The Undersecretary of Culture, Martín Bonavetti, considered that “it is imperative to meet in the space and field of culture to pose problems and questions, and resonate discussions that tend to nurture the democratic debate. We reaffirm our conviction of the political place that cultural spaces occupy in our society”.

“From Proyecto Ballena, the Kirchner Cultural Center and the Ministry of Culture, we believe in public policy as a tool for reflection, transformation and updating in the present time that democracy demands. It is the task of the State to promote scenarios that foster such debates in times when which it is necessary to recompose and defend basic consensus”, said Bonavetti, organizer of the meeting.

Among the most outstanding activities, “Democracy and Freedom: Utopias or Unfinished Projects?” where, in a live streaming broadcast, the essayist Boris Groys will be interviewed by Victor Lenarduzzi, it will take place in the Argentina room, on Friday the 14th, at 7:00 p.m. Groys is one of the most original essayists of this century, since Having studied philosophy and mathematics in Leningrad (today St. Petersburg) and taught linguistics in Moscow, he experienced first-hand the Soviet “restoration” on the road to capitalism in the late 20th century, and then moved to the Federal Republic of Germany, where he received his Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Münster. His academic life soon developed in study houses in Karlsruhe, Vienna, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York, among other cities.

His latest book, “The Philosophy of Care” (Caja Negra, 2022), deals with the status of truth, the current projects of the 20th century avant-gardists, immortality, the revolution as a total change in human life, the challenges of current technology and the possibilities and limits of individual freedom when we always depend on others.

Meanwhile, under the name “Stop the world. I want to change it. How to put a stop to the new rights” on Sunday the 16th, at 4:00 p.m., and in a live streaming interview, Bifo Berardi will dialogue with the political scientist Diego Sztulwark.

Bifo analyzes the idea of freedom in the contemporary world from the left. What happens to the left that does not react to the right’s use of the word “freedom”? Is coexistence still viable in a context of neo-fascist effervescence, which Berardi calls “blackout of sensibility”, a wave of “idiocy spread throughout the world” in the form of “rebellion against science and reason”? “.

Among other activities, Maitena and Malena Pichot, will be presented on Thursday 13, at 7:00 p.m., at La Cúpula, in the debate table “Laughter and freedom” that will cover topics such as cancellation, limits and sense of humor.

A themed book fair on land, freedom and democracy and seed mail with sale of seedlings and sprouts will be part of the meeting where there will also be free “Destalleres” for artistic experimentation with Diana Szeimblum, Diego Bianchi and Gabriela Bejerman.
