Born in San Juan del Puerto, Quintero revolutionized journalism in his country. He began his career in the media at a radio station in Huelva, his native province.
And in the 1960s he gained popularity for the program Estudio 15-18, which he presented together with Marisol Valle, on Radio Nacional de España. Then came “The Green Dog”, but “The Madman on the Hill” was the cycle that catapulted him to mass fame and crossed the borders of his country.

The Green Dog Charly Garcia
Passionate about interviews, Quintero connected with marginalized characters, so they could talk about their problems, desires and concerns.”I want the interviewee to tell me his things. I’m not going to harass him, or suck him, or beat him. I never use the lunge. If he is to die he will kill himself and with his own words. I don’t believe anything in this fashion of aggressive reporting”pointed out in an interview the man who was characterized by his silences and made school.
The cycle was successfully replicated in Argentina and Uruguay, but the journalist was left with two pending interviewees: John Paul II and Fidel Castro, who never agreed to participate in his program. In addition, he was an actor, producer and managed the careers of important figures such as Paco de Lucía, María Jiménez or the clowns Gaby, Fofó and Miliki.
Throughout his career, he was recognized with more than 200 awards, among which two Ondas stand out, the National Radio Award, the “King of Spain” award for journalism or the Andalusian of the year, among others.
